Carlos Betancourt | Biography

Artist Carlos Betancourt was born in 1966 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Miami Beach, Florida in 1981. His artwork can be found in public collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC; the San Antonio Museum of Art, San Antonio, Texas; Museo de Arte Ponce, Puerto Rico; Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno, Canary Islands the Museo de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the Florida Department of State Millennium Cultural Recognition Award, a Miami Beach Arts Council Grant, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant.

Betancourt is co-founder of 801 Projects, a Miami arts center that provides studio space for visual artists. He maintains a studio in Miami while traveling extensively, returning home to create dynamic works of art inspired by his experiences throughout the world.
